Abstract:
INTRODUCTION: Coal, Indiana's major source of fuel, is used to generate 97 percent of the electricity consumed in Indiana. Only Illinois, Pennsylvania, and Ohio use more coal in generating electricity. To supply the energy market, 21.4 million tons of coal, valued at $102 million, was produced in Indiana in 1971.
