The maps in this series were published by the U.S. Geological Survey in cooperation with the Geological Survey, Indiana Department of Conservation (which is what the IGWS was called from INSERT YEARS). Each quadrangle map consists of a geological map and a map showing distribution, structure, and mined areas of coals (both in color). A discussion of the geology and coal deposits of the quadrangle, a columnar section, cross sections, and tables showing information related to active and abandoned mines, oil and gas test wells, and coal reserves are included on the quadrangle maps.
